Diablo III to feature Inferno difficulty setting

Blizzard has detailed its toughest descent into the underworld yet.

On top of the Normal, Nightmare, and Hell modes found in Diablo II, Diablo III switches it up another notch with Inferno, presumably extending the game's lifespan by many howlingly difficult hours.

Take the plunge, and you'll be rewarded with gear exclusive to Inferno, much more powerful than that found in easier runs. This was also true of Diablo II, but MTV Multiplayer reports Blizzard has mixed things up a bit by scattering the best loot drops through the game, so you won't need to grind through the same mission over and over again to complete a set.

If you'd like to see just how ostentatious and powerful the loot you'll pick up in Inferno is, head on over to Kotaku's gallery.

Additionally, game director Jay Wilson told Kotaku players won't outrank Inferno's enemies as they could in Diablo II's Hell, meaning you'll never be able to cruise through. Players enter at the level cap of 60, and face level 61 monsters.

Diablo III goes into beta in September.
