Diablo 3: Eternal Collection on Switch is seemingly getting amiibo support
References to three amiibo toys have shown up in Diablo 3: Eternal Collection's game files on Switch.
The Switch version of Diablo 3, Diablo 3: Eternal Collection, launches this week. Some of those who have early access to the game have revealed a very interesting detail that's yet to be made official.
Dataminers have dug up references to Nintendo's amiibo toys within game files. Neither Nintendo, nor Blizzard have announced amiibo support for the game, which makes this finding very interesting.
Reddit user JustMaku not only found three amiibo toys mentioned in the game's files, they also detailed what each of them will do.
If you're not familiar with the concept, amiibo toys typically trigger in-game events or unlock exclusive loot for their owners, in the games that support them. This being a Diablo game, you can bet amiibo support will be on theme.
The three amiibos found are the Treasure Goblin amiibo, Demon amiibo, and one other default amiibo. The Treasure Goblin and default amiibo will spawn a portal leading to an unknown location, according to the leaker. We do hope it's a portal to The Vault in Diablo's Treasure Realm.
As for the Demon amiibo, the Reddit user says it'll just spawn a powerful demon for the player to fight. These abilities have a cooldown, though, with 1320 minutes for portals and 45 minutes for demons.
Finally, the user adds that these abilities can be used both locally and online.
BlizzCon 2018 takes place this weekend, and would make for a great stage to announce Diablo amiibo. Nintendo typically unviels amiibo figures through its official channels first, but exceptions may have been made for Blizzard.
We'll be bringing you any and all news from the show.
