Devil May Cry 5 gets free Xbox One demo today - watch the new Game Awards trailer
One of the surprise announcements at The Game Awards 2018 is Devil May Cry 5-related.
At the end of a fresh new Devil May Cry 5 trailer, where we got treated to the first proper look at gameplay with the new character, V, Capcom also prepared a special surprise for those who stuck around.
A Devil May Cry 5 demo - or the first demo, as Capcom calls it, will be available for free today exclusively on Xbox One. The demo gives you control of Nero, and shows off the Red Grave City level. Nero's main sword, Red Queen, and special Devil Breaker abilities will be available for all to use, along with his Blue Rose handgun.
Capcom announced that the Bloody Palace Mode is returning in Devil May Cry 5, available as a free update to all players in April. The Cameo System, the game's multiplayer-inspired feature, was also revealed.
Cameo appears to be inspired by passive multiplayer (ghosts) in games like From Software's Souls series. As you play, you'll come across other players fighting off demons in their own worlds, though unlike Souls, they'll be able to join your game briefly in real-time, depending on the mission. You'll also get the chance to rate their performance.
The new trailer also shows off V's unique gameplay. V is the new character, and he likes to summon monsters to do his bidding, preferring to instead go in for the kill. V can call on Shadow, a panther with the ability to turn into blades and needles. Griffon is a bird that deals damage from above, while Nightmare is a massive demon capable of firing a devastating beam of light.

Devil May Cry 5 is out March 8 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
