Developer gets Oculus Rift exclusives running on Valve's Vive

A programmer who goes by the username CrossVR on Reddit has released a proof of concept software that allows owners of the HTC Vive to play Oculus Rift exclusive games.

This early version of the program comes in the form of patches that, when applied to Rift exclusive games, allows them to be played on the Vive.

CrossVR has already gotten Lucky's Tale and Oculus Dreamdeck working, though you can only use an Xbox controller.

"It works by reimplementing functions from the Oculus Runtime and translating them to OpenVR calls," the developer wrote on GitHub.

"Unfortunately, Oculus has implemented a Code Signing check on the Runtime DLLs, therefore the Revive DLLs cannot be used unless the application is patched."

CrossVR's programme gets around this code-signing check, but patching each game with this modified file is necessary for it to work, according to the developer.

The steps on the GitHub page are fairly straightforward, after you download and install the patch.

CrossVR has plans to add more games, implement DirectX 12 and OpenGL support, and more.
