Developer: 3DS and NPG utilise a "PSP1-like strategy"

Microsoft Games Studio's John Noonan has entered into the spirit of the looming portable console wars by describing Nintendo and Sony's approach to the smartphone problem as a "PSP1-like strategy".

Eurogamer put together a Twitter-dump of industry comments in the wake of the NGP reveal, with some critical observations from Noonan:

"It feels like Nintendo & Sony are both employing a PSP1-like strategy this time around, which is pretty interesting," he said, later adding "If I was launching the 3DS or PSP2 I would have Rovio showing Angry Birds 2 at my presser."

Although Sony's PlayStation Suite is widely regarded as a step towards addressing competition from mobile phones, Noonan has doubts.

"Did Sony say anything about development kits? Seems like the real power of iOS/WP7/Android are the cheap/free SDKs," he observed.

Plenty of other industry figures have weighed in on the debate; get everything in one place.

Thanks, GoNintendo.
