Destiny's Iron Banner seems to have a lag problem
Destiny, like every multiplayer game, has issues with lag. The latest Iron Banner, though - wow. Not pretty.
Destiny players are reporting serious problems with the Iron Banner.
Now, the Iron Banner brings a great many people into PvP who might otherwise have abstained, so I guess it's possible that it's just a matter of being paired up with hosts with bad upstream connections, or players who live a long way away from you. Also: we gamers love to complain and invent conspiracy theories.
With those caveats in mind:
"Although there is definitely an issue with lag in normal crucible games it seems to get MUCH MUCH worse during Iron Banner games, says Redditor halfbaked.
"Iron Banner is basically unplayable due to the lag," says toborNixon.
"I shot a guy who wasn't moving 6 times point blank with a shotgun and he, with no damage taken, turned around and killed me with one punch. I had a great connection, he was red barring it. That is just one of many many examples I have from last night's Iron Banner festivities," says xAwkwardTacox.
"Yeah its ridiculous, 70% of the attacks I make take like a second and a half to register so it's pretty much impossible for me the survive a gun battle, the most I can hope for is a trade. The same thing happens when i get hit, so I don't even know I'm getting hit until I'm already dead," says The_Bone_Machine.
In addition to these complaints, of which you'll find many more if you explore further, are several voices saying Iron Banner events are always bad, and others blaming the problems on cheaters, exploiters and lag switchers.
On this theme, another thread by GeneralWarts warns against an exploit on the Twilight Gap map:
"It appears that the players found an exploit where they were able to unhook themselves from their character models in the back room under Charlie's control point," they wrote.
Some users said this supposed exploit is just a consequence of lag, even blaming the poster's router for the issues - but others scoffed at this theory.
Regardless of the cause of the issues, the number of complaints - and their recurrence every Iron Banner - suggests Bungie might want to take a look at the netcode, just to make sure.
