Destiny Year One bonuses to be unveiled on Bungie Day
Destiny players who got on board before The Taken King will be celebrated in-game as Year One Guardians.
When Destiny: The Taken King was announced, many players were distressed to see that the bundles aimed at brand new players included content not available to faithful fans.
Bungie has since corrected that oversight, providing a way for Guardians to get everything without re-buying existing content, and promised that it would find a way to celebrate the first batch of Guardians.
We already knew that those who upgraded to The Taken King digitally from the full Year One package would receive a couple of goodies - a Sparrow, an armour shader and an emblem - but it looks like there's more in store. In the latest Bungle Weekly Update, the developer invited Destiny players to tune in on July 7, Bungie's annual community day, in order to learn more about these plans.
"We’ll have some celebrations of the awesome stuff you’ve done this past year, along with some invitations for how you can express yourselves. We’ll also tell you how any player who has braved the first year of Destiny can achieve permanent, exclusive legendary status," Bungie said.
"This is something we’ve been working on for a while, and your own triumphs are the crucial ingredient."
I'm really excited about this. One of the early promises of Destiny was that your gear would tell the story of your adventures. While it's true that the raid sets have visual themes riffing on the battles you faced to win them, practically every endgame player character the same set - even if they just started a few weeks ago. Up until House of Wolves launched, everybody always seemed to be wearing the same thing. I'd love to see something to further differentiate Guardians from each other, and to display our Legends for the Kindergaurdians.
Not that any of us day one players have any vault space left to store more goodies. Oh yeah, I said it.
