Destiny: Xur won't stock a guaranteed Exotic weapon from now on, other changes detailed

The party's over, pal. Bungie's making big changes to the way Xur operates this year.

Ahead of Xur's first visit to Destiny after the release of The Taken King this week, Bungie said last night he will no longer pack a guaranteed Exotic weapon for sale.

The messenger, who appears in the game's social locations every Friday for a two-day stay, will now have either a yellow weapon or a yellow engram in his stock.

The change is in line with significant concept shifts between The Taken King and the original, year-one Destiny game, the newest version being more heavily focused on questing.

"This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory," said senior design lead Tyson Green in the latest Bungie update.

In addition, Xûr will now sell a new consumable, named Three of Coins. This gives bosses a chance to drop Exotic engrams, including Weapon Engrams.

The Three of Coins have a cumulative luck effect: if one doesn’t create a drop, the next one has a higher chance of coming good.

Finally, Xur will stock an Exotic engram that only produces year-one yellows. The odds of this turning out a gun or piece of armour you don't already own are high, and this has been included primarily for veteran players to complete their yellow collections.

Watch for details of Xur's first post-Taken King stock later this morning.
