The Taken King: You don't have to re-purchase Destiny to get the CE goodies
You don't need to re-buy Destiny in order to get those new emotes, and Year One Guardians can expect some extra special gifts.
Destiny developer Bungie has elected to make a number of digital goodies from the new collector's editions of Destiny: The Taken King available in an add-on pack.
The $20 pack includes the three class-specific emotes, three armour shaders and three Exotic class items. It will act as a collector's edition upgrade to a previously announced The Taken King package for Year One Guardians.
The items included in the pack were originally exclusive to the Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition (retail package) and Destiny: The Taken King Digital Collector’s Edition, meaning there was no way for existing players to pick them up without re-purchasing the base game and two expansions. That has now changed.
Writing in the Bungie Weekly Update, the developer promised "additional information" is coming soon for those who committed to buying the Destiny: The Taken King Digital Collector’s Edition prior to this announcement.
In other good news, Bungie is going to reward the faithful with some additional extras. If you have a level 30 or above Guardian or you've purchased Destiny, The Dark below and House of Wolves, you'll receive a number of Year One exclusive goodies which kinderguardians apparently won't ever have access to.
Currently this gear includes an emblem, a shader and a black Sparrow, but Bungie said it will "have more fun stuff to announce in the very short term future, just for you".
Bungie also clarified that the Exotic class items included in The Taken King collector's editions are not the only ones coming to the game when the expansion launches on September 15; everyone will have the chance to earn and equip functional class items in order to alter their builds.
The Taken King creative director Luke Smith also issued an apology for his tone during a much-shared interview regarding The Taken King's price tag and the new digital goodies.
