Sony: we're treating Destiny as a first-party release

Sony's UK MD has said that it sees Destiny as a first-party PS4 title.

Although the game is also available on Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Xbox One, an exclusivity deal has tied up extra digital and physical content for the game, including a console bundle.

"We're treating it, for all intents and purposes internally, as if it's a first-party release," Sony's Fergal Gara told Eurogamer.

"We're wrapping our arms around it on all levels of the organisation. It's a special project and an important project and it has the power to launch Christmas. It's hugely important."

And on the same day that the PS4 passed 1 million sales in the UK, Gara added that he expects it to be a system seller.

"I think a lot of people are going to decide now is the time to go and buy a PlayStation 4 because this very ambitious project has come along that looks exciting," he said.

Sony's exclusivity agreement with Activision doesn't just extend to content but also advertising. But that didn't stop Microsoft managing a work around with that last week, by launching a fake Destiny The Fragrance website. Cheeky!
