Destiny: Bungie "considering different ways" to accommodate solo players
Destiny's Strike missions aren't designed for solo players, but that's how some people want to play them. Bungie's looking into it.
Destiny patch 1.03 brought a number of unannounced adjustments, including changes to Strike difficulty.
In the latest Weekly Update on Bungie.net, community manager David :Deej" Dague said that Strikes were never designed to be played solo, but with a full fireteam of three players - even though solo has sometimes been easier than in a partial or full fire team.
"We were looking over the data from Strikes and found that some unintentional damage scaling was occurring based on team size," designer James Tsai said added.
"We made a couple of changes. Players can now be certain that people joining their team are helping their progress, not hindering it."
The full post explains what changes were made and why, but then also discusses a knock-on effect of this fix.
"The side effect of this change is that playing Strikes solo has indeed become a little harder," Tsai said.
"We acknowledge that this is undesirable for many players and we are considering different ways to solve these problems."
"We’ll continue to have conversations about how to support the solo player over the longer term," Dague said.
And with that you'll have to be content for now. Supporting solo players is probably not a major priority for Bungie, because Destiny is a an always-online multiplayer game at its core; if you bought it knowing you didn't want to play multiplayer or had a flaky Internet connection, well - that might not have been the best investment.
