Don't worry, custom and private matches may come to Destiny

Destiny PvP builds on the legacy of Halo's multiplayer, so long-time Bungie fans should be pleased to learn custom and private matches are on the cards.

Destiny won't support custom and private PvP matches at launch but Bungie's not ruling out bringing them in later, Jonty Barnes has said.

"It’s really about how we wanted to make sure for launch that we had the best gameplay that we could offer for the core competitive multiplayer activity," he told The Sixth Axis.

"I think what you’ll find is that over time we’re going to see some things arrive, and I think players are going to inform our prioritisation of what features we update."

Barnes said Bungie has the chance to improve on its legacy in this regard.

"We did a bunch of this with Hoppers [temporary playlists], I guess, in previous Halo games, but we’re on a much greater scale of potential change, if we choose to do it," he said.

Bungie has said several times that it plans on active, ongoing development of Destiny rather than restricting itself to major DLC content drops and sequels. Elsewhere in the same interview, Barnes discussed other much-requested features (including beards!) and said he "would hope" players don't have to wait till the first sequel to take advantage of them.

Destiny is coming to PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September and I am so ready.
