Destiny has great audio, and now we know why
Destiny has been rightly praised for its music and sound effects, and even its voice acting post-Dinklage. Here's why.
The audio team behind Destiny: The Taken King went to great lengths to polish the shared-worlds shooter, resulting in one of the finest audioscapes in gaming today.
This aspect of game development is regularly overlooked, but Bungie highlighted it in a lengthy behind-the-scenes Twitch stream this week.
The stream kicked off with a 15 minute vidoc covering foley, voice acting and music, and then switched to live chat with Bungie staff and special guests.
Foley (real world recordings used for creating sound effects) is always interesting, and Destiny's music doesn't get as much credit as it deserves. But if you're a story and lore geek, you're here for Morla Gorrondona and Kirsten Potter, the voices of Eris Morn and Mara Sov respectively, who provide insight into their characters and therefore into Destiny's story, helped along by a story lead CJ Cowan and audio director C Paul Johnson.
The full stream archive is embedded below, but Bungie has also released the vidoc as a standalone video. If you only have 15 minutes to spare, hit the YouTube embed instead.
