Destiny: Guardians, don't fall for the "heavy ammo trick"
Destiny players are falling hook, line and sinker for a heck of a troll.
Destiny has a bit of an issue with heavy ammo, in that when you die you often lose all of this rather precious resource.
As a result of this bug, which has gone unpatched through several updates now, players are keen to take advantage of any little trick or exploit that increases their carrying capacity or drop rate. And that keenness makes them vulnerable to trolls.
Enter "the heavy ammo trick".
The troll goes like this: use a group finder to join a Crota's End raid attempt with five strangers. In the room with a pool of water, innocently ask if you're going to do "the heavy ammo trick" before moving on. When everyone asks what the trick is, explain that you can get free or unlimited heavy ammo if everyone fires a powerful fusion rifle at the ground beneath their own feet at exactly the same time. If you put in something a bit elaborate, like needing to stand in a circle and fire at a specific spot, it only adds to the joke's credibility, making it sound like a weird bug exploit.
Naturally, there is no such trick. For some reason, shooting at your feet in Destiny while standing in water will damage you - a little known and lethal fact, especially with a good fusion rifle.
Word has it the troll has been quite successful. Reddit user Fizjig recounted one such successful attempt, although they say they overheard it in party chat rather than falling for it, hem hem. Several other Guardians have told me they have seen or perpetrated the troll, although as yet nobody is willing to admit to have fallen for it.
Anyway, here's a piece of Super Good Advice: don't shoot in the water at your feet, Guardians, no matter what some guy from LFG tells you.
