Destiny: Ghost Edition pre-orders still being cancelled - but there is hope
Destiny Ghost and Limited Editions are seriously thin on the ground, but at least one retailer is working hard to ensure customers get what they wanted.
Destiny's two special editions have been largely sold out since a few days after announce, and we've seen successive waves of pre-order cancellations from oversold retailers.
Less than a week from launch, and with Destiny shipping notifications going out, you'd expect retailers to have a handle on inventory, but it looks like that's not the case.
Reddit user betrion posted an email screen cap dated September 3, showing GameStop apologising for being unable to supply a Ghost Edition on PS4.
However, the retailer had a pretty good solution - it's posting a Ghost Edition on PS3, so the user gets all the extra content and goodies it contains, and a standard edition on PS4, so they can play on their platform of choice. Nice!
Sadly, Reddit user ConnorBig said he was contacted by EB Games (part of the GameStop family; the name is still used in Australia, New Zealand and Spain) and told that he would be supplied with a Limited Edition rather than a Ghost Edition.
We haven't heard of any further cancellations or substitutions at other chains, like Best Buy and Walmart, who previously disappointed users.
Destiny hits PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9. Last week my housemate said he was considering changing his Xbox 360 Ghost Edition pre-order for PS4. I laughed hollowly. People are paying up to $1,000 for them on eBay. I can't say I blame them; I restricted myself to the Limited Edition but dang, they're shiny.
