Destiny is borrowing one more item from the MMO rulebook.

As with any MMO, or really any game where persistence and character attachment is key, player numbers are bound to dwindle when new content is not being released. Destiny doesn't look like it's suffering from this yet, but Bungie wants to take pre-emptive measures against it with the introduction of a refer-a-friend programme.

In the game's weekly update, the studio confirmed the upcoming November update will lay the groundwork for the feature.

"Maybe you have a friend who will be getting Destiny as a gift this season. Perhaps their gift-giver will even be picking it up for them at a holiday sale coming to a store near you," the update read.

Bungie did not reveal any details about how this scheme will work, though it did confirm new rewards will be given to those who refer their friends.

"Right now, we’re putting the finishing touches on the program. We’ll unpack the full and final details very soon," it concluded.

The November update is coming next week, hopefully we'll learn more then.
