Watch out for DLC veterans when you're playing Destiny
Destiny players who aren't yet ready to tackle the first expansion may find themselves playing side-by-side with those who are already on DLC quests.
Destiny's first major piece of DLC is an expansion called The Dark Below.
In addition to all the little bells and whistles you'd expect like new armour, weapons and equipment, it adds story missions and at least one of all the activity types in Destiny - so a strike, a raid, an explore hub, and more.
Production director Jonty Barnes said some of this new content "attaches to existing places that you're familiar" with.
"So you might find that as you're going through new areas, that you actually collide with players who are just playing the existing Destiny content," he told Joystiq.
"You'll have those collisions. We always want to create spaces where people can get together and cooperate, and we feel like that is a big innovation in Destiny."
The Dark Below is coming in December, which hopefully gives you enough time to hit the level 20 cap and thrash through the first raid before it hits. Bungie has also announced a second expansion, House of Wolves, with no date or details as yet.
That won't be the end of it, though; in addition to expected sequels down the track, Bungie plans to keep adding to Destiny, non-stop.
"We're going to continuously update the game from now until the end of time. That's always going to be part of the philosophy of Destiny," Barnes said.
"We always wanted to build a new universe but keep building upon it, rather than to do a complete and utter restart periodically."
This comment about lack of restarts plays to a recurring theme; we already know you'll be able to bring your characters from one Destiny release to another (and even between generations, although not cross-platform).

Destiny is coming to PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9. Are we ready? We're ready.
