Destiny 2 will have a little surprise for returning players next week, on top of the previously announced emblems
Destiny 2 will honour Guardians who return to pick up their adventures.
If you play Destiny 2 using the same console ID as you used in D1, you'll get a few little rewards.
These rewards include seven Destiny 2 emblems unlocked by completing milestones prior to the cut off date earlier this month, but we can also expect something Bungie hasn't yet announced.
The evidence for this is a recent Wired Q&A video in which Bungie's Luke Smith responded to a question about what veterans can expect from Destiny 2.
"How is Bungie going to remember that we played Destiny 1? We have something we're planning. We're not gonna talk about it," he said, starting at about 1:22.
"I'm not gonna spoilt it. But when the game comes out on September 6, you'll find out for yourself what I'm talking about."
Bungie had previously hinted at further rewards for returning players, noting that some will just be little "I was there"-style moments while others will be more observable effects. Smith's comments in the linked video make it sound like it will be something a bit more substantial than expected, given its track record.
But on the side of light and fluffy rewards, it does sound like on unannounced reward for returning players is a transmat aura, a new feature spotted in the Destiny 2 PC beta.
"You're gonna enter the world a little differently from players who didn't play D1," Smith said in response to the next question.
While this could suggest a different cutscene or something, it does line up pretty neatly with what little we know about Destiny 2's transmat auras so far.
All of these little mysteries will be cleared up as soon as Destiny 2 hits consoles next week - probably sooner than we'd like, to be frank. Will there be secrets left for PC players at the end of October? They seem to be having a great time in the beta, so let's hope so.
