Destiny 2: power, possessions, other items won't carry over - but character customization will
Bungie has dropped a tidbit of information on Destiny 2, stating some items in the current game won't carry over into the sequel.
According to Bungie, sequels "represent the start of a new adventure for every player," which means there needs to be new worlds and stories to tell.
This also means new loot, powers and the like will be acquired. Because of this, power, possessions, Eververse-related items and currency won't carry over from Destiny into Destiny 2.
However, the studio plans to preserve character personalization of player Guardians. This means class, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections for characters which have completed the Black Garden story mission and are at level 20 and above will carry over into Destiny 2.
"We are going to recognize the dedication and passion you’ve shown for this world," reads the blog post. "We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments.
All power, possessions, Eververse-related items and currency will still remain accessible to players in Destiny 1, obviously, but the "best path forward" is to not include these in Destiny 2, said Bungie.
"It allows us to introduce the major advancements and improvements that all of us expect from a sequel, ensuring it will be the best game we can create, unencumbered by the past," said the studio.
More details will be shared later this year, but Bungie pretty much confirmed through various teases we would hear more information on Destiny 2 at some point this month - and it delivered some today.
Publisher Activision has said repeatedly during various financials calls a full Destiny sequel was on track for 2017. The firm told investors it wants to “broaden the franchise’s global reach," meaning it wants to either push the game more in certain markets - or it could be coming to PC.
Hopefully, Bungie will provide more details on Destiny in the coming weeks, as we expect the needle on the hype meter to be pushed close to the max soon.
