Destiny 2 PC will have its own FPS counter and the option to set an upper limit
Destiny 2 won't play nicely with some common PC tools, but Bungie has solutions, workarounds and explanations.
We recently learned that Destiny 2 may not function with certain capture, comms and performance tools on PC, both during beta and at release.
This week, Bungie gave a few more details on that subject to help PC players understand what will and won't work, and how it might affect their Destiny 2 experience.
For starters, the fact that Destiny 2 dislikes overlays doesn't mean you can't check performance using an FPS counter - Destiny 2 has one built right into the PC client. Additionally, players can set an upper FPS limit by fiddling with the config file.
As for other performance monitoring tools, they'll work as normal - it's only their overlays that are incompatible with Destiny 2.
When it comes to capture and comms apps, Bungie reiterated that Destiny 2 will work with many tools except for their overlays, and in troublesome apps like OBS and XSplit, will work in all but the modes specified last week.
"The methods that some third-party applications use to add features (inserting code into the game client) are the same as some of the methods hackers and cheaters use to disrupt the experience of other players," the developer explained in this week's Bungie update.
"As a part of our security efforts, we have designed Destiny 2 for PC to resist all attempts from external applications to insert code into the game client. It is a high priority for us to ensure that Destiny 2 is a safe and fair experience for all players, on all platforms.
"We remain committed to creating a positive and fair in-game experience in all of our products, and believe that this is a necessary measure in bringing you a great gaming experience in Destiny 2 on PC."
Destiny 2 releases on consoles in September and hits PC in October. The Destiny 2 beta arrives on PC this month and will incorporate balance changes based on console beta feedback.
The PC build of Destiny 2 has been developed by Vicarious Visions and Bungie, and will leverage Blizzard's PC infrastructure.
