Players will be able to test the opening story mission, Homecoming, along with the three-player cooperative Strike, The Inverted Spire. Two competitive multiplayer modes will also be playable.

What to expect in the Destiny 2 Open Beta

  • Countdown: Battle other Guardians in a brand new Crucible mode. Attack or Defend the base on a new map custom-built to support this new game type.
  • Control: The original standard for Crucible combat is back, with some changes. Control the zones on another new map built with this objective in mind.
  • New Subclasses: The new fighting style for each Class will be at the ready. Choose from the Dawnblade Warlock, Arcstrider Hunter, or Sentinel Titan.
  • The Farm: For stress testing purposes only, for one hour, on Sunday, July 23, testers can tour the new social space in Destiny 2. Starting at 10am Pacific, 1pm Eastern, 6pm UK, players can "kick the ball into the net or befriend a chicken." Most vendors and services will be offline. Again, this area will mainly be open for stress testing in order to see how many players it can accommodate at once.

Bungie said during the Destiny 2 open beta, Clan support will not be tested, and while players will be rewarded for defeating enemies, character progression is not included. In other words, don't expect anything in the beta to carry over to the final version of Destiny 2 when it releases September 6. Arekkz goes over all of this and more in a quick recap video which you can watch above.

That said, players who participate in the betas will be handed a Destiny 2 Beta Emblem - which will carry over, of course. It will be made available for players come release as a "gesture of thanks," marking the player as a "volunteer member of the development team."

A PC beta is still slated to take place sometime in August. You'll need to have a Blizzard account to play it, of course.

Originally slated for release on September 8, Destiny 2 was moved up a couple of days in order to keep the servers from blowing up and vaporizing every living thing in the immediate vicinity.

Again, it releases on September 6 for PS4 and Xbox One and is also coming to PC.
