Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris adds biggest public event yet, multiple Mercury timelines, Heroic Strike playlist
Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris does more than just add a few new stories.
It sounds like Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris will have plenty of new Activities to check out. During the Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris livestream today, Bungie gave us a look at the sorts of things we'll be doing when the expansion hits.
We've already reported on the new Activity type with the Eater of Worlds Raid Lair.
We also heard that Curse of Osiris will bring a Heroic Strike playlist to Destiny 2. This is a feature many D1 veterans have been missing, as it gives you a chance to earn more valuable loot and face tougher challenges than the standard Strike playlist.
Bungie took us on a little tour of Mercury, the new destination coming to Destiny 2 with Curse of Osiris in December, and revealed that it will feature an all new public event - the largest such we've seen so far.
That's pretty exciting, if mysterious, but details of Mercury itself probably outdo it across both metrics. Turns out the Vex have completely gutted Mercury and turned it into a "reality engine" - you can pass through a gate there and enter the Infinite Forest, a virtual world built by the Vex to simulate reality.
The Infinite Forest changes every time you move through it, with new enemies and set pieces. By activating different trees in the Infinite Forest, Destiny 2 players can travel to different timelines in Mercury - past, present and future - including one where the sun is dying and there's nothing but Vex as far as you can see.
It sort of sounds a bit like a dungeon randomiser for Destiny 2, but it's also where you'll meet with NPCs and begin missions in the Curse of Osiris storyline.
Story-wise, Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris of course introduces us to Osiris, the former Vanguard leader and Iroka's mentor, who was exiled for getting a bit too interested in the Darkness - especially the Vex. You'll see he uses Vex gear to modify his equipment - his gauntlets are Sunbracers.
Osiris is in the Infinite Forest looking for a clue as to the Vex's ultimate goal. The Curse of Osiris campaign begins a few months after the end of the Red War in Destiny 2; apparently the Vex had been waiting for the wave of Light emitted by the waking Traveller to touch Mercury, which is worrying.
We also meet Sagira, the first Ghost besides our own we ever get to talk to. She thinks Guardians are a bit stuffy, apparently. Ikora also features, and we will see her lighter, more human side, apparently.
D1 Trials of Osiris host Brother Vance also makes an appearance, although you might notice some changes in him. He appears in the Lighthouse, which as previously reported is the new Social hub, and is an engram vendor for a new loot table called Lighthouse.
In addition to this new Lighthouse gear, Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris will include new weapon quests. You'll have to finish the campaign to start these. They're probably new and returning Exotics, I should think.
Finally, the Lost Sectors on Mercury won't be marked on the map until you finish the campaign,. That should add a bit of mystery back into proceedings.
Here's Arekkz on the new content, although the video begins with a discussion of the Raid Lair.
Again, as previously reported, Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris raises the Power cap to 330. Can't wait.
