Destiny 2: Bungie is nerfing the Prometheus Lens to be "way too weak" before a proper rebalance in January
Laser-tag time is over, with Bungie committing to nerf Destiny 2's Prometheus Lens into the dust...at least for a while.
If you haven't noticed, the Prometheus Lens Exotic trace rifle, which was added in the new Curse of Osiris expansion for Destiny 2, is totally broken right now. In PVP, it can wipe out your opponents incredibly fast. It's so powerful, in fact, that there's not really any reason to use any other weapon in a Crucible match, because you're going to be overpowered immediately.
Rebalancing the weapon takes time, so Bungie did the only sensible thing - they made the rare weapon much easier to get byletting Xur sell it last week. We knew that a nerf was coming, but over the weekend the Crucible was full of people on even standing, destroying each other super fast with deadly lasers.
Now, the inevitable is coming. Get ready to put your lasers away for a while, because in the short term Prometheus Lens isn't just getting nerfed - it's getting wrecked.
Bungie has acknowledged the issue, but the short-term solution is to make the Prometheus Lens so weak that no one would consider using it.
So the Lens will be ground down into a fine powder, but not to worry - the gun will get a proper rebalance in January, balancing it so that it'll be worth using, but so that it won't be the only gun worth using anymore.
Until then, you'll need to check out Destiny 2 guide to see which other weapons we're fond of. There are six Exotic weapons in Curse of Osiris, and plenty more in the base game.
We hope you had fun ripping people apart with lasers, but all good things must end.
