Destiny 2: Beyond Light's base edition doesn't come with a pass for the season it launches with
Unlike last year's Shadowkeep, Destiny 2: Beyond Light doesn't come with the expansion's first season.
Bungie's big Destiny 2: Beyond Light reveal brought many fresh details on the arrival of Darkness powers, the new Europa destination, and the studio's philosophy of dealing with old, irrelevant content.
But one detail in particular was seemingly overlooked. The base, $40 version of Beyond Light does not come with a season pass for the game's Season 12, which kicks off the day the expansion launches. As you've no doubt already seen on Steam, PS Store and Bungie's own store - there's another, $50 version that includes Season 12.
This is in stark contrast to last year's Shadowkeep expansion; the base, $35 version of which came with Season of the Worthy included. Both expansions offer Deluxe Editions that include all seasons within a year, so in Beyond Light's case that's Seasons 12, 13, 14 and 15.
Bungie has yet to reveal the seasonal content/roadmap for Season 12, and we realistically shouldn't expect that to materialise until closer to launch. It is, however, a bit strange that players will have to fork out an extra $10 to access the Season 12 Battle Pass, and presumably most other seasonal content coming down the line.
Destiny 2 has always had a seasonal release structure, but last year's Shadowkeep codified that with a clear progression track through a Battle Pass, seasonal events exclusive to owners of that pass, and an Artifact free to everyone. Content released in the first few months following launch has always been part of the main purchase.
We've asked Bungie for comment but couldn't get any.
