Destiny 2 beta brings locked 30fps on PS4 and PS4 Pro, but doesn't quite hit native 4K on the latter
Destiny 2 is the first game in the series to make use of PS4 Pro's hardware, and the current beta is the first time the general public gets to see this firsthand.
Digital Foundry also has, and it confirmed that the game uses checkerboarding to reach a 4K resolution (2160p) on PS4 Pro. The horizontal access, on the other hand, uses dynamic resolution that ranges from 3072p up to 3840p.
On a regular PS4, the sequel retains the original's full 1080p buffer. Volumetric lighting and screen space reflections effects were praised, as did the bokeh effect seen when going ADS. Some of these do have lower resolutions than desired, which can stand out on PS4 Pro.
Performance holds up at a locked 30fps on PS4 Pro, as well as a standard PS4. However, frame-pacing issues are more prevalent on the latter, which, although largely unnoticeable during play, do exist. Still, the site notes they're a far cry from the Destiny 1 beta.
The PC beta isn't out until late August, but the site managed to compare PS4 Pro with the PC footage captured at E3. PC gameplay was captured running at a native 4K resolution and 60fps, and it stands out immediately.
