Demon's Souls PS5 character creator detailed, has more options than PS3 original

Sony has given us our first look at the character creator in the PlayStation 5 remake of Demon's Souls.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, the platform holder detailed this new-and-improved system, which features a greater variety of customisation options than the PlayStation 3 original.

Apparently, there are up to 16m different characters that can be created using the new system. Of course, your avatar will likely be wearing a helmet to protect them from being brained by any number of foul creatures in the famously-difficult title, but it's nice to be able to create a unique character.

"With this new character creator, you will be able to customize your appearance with up to 16 million permutations," said SIE Worldwide Studios' creative director for external development, Gavin Moore.

"We’ve added many more customization options than you’ll remember from the PS3 game, and also worked hard to ensure there is a satisfying variety possible for those who wish to tinker with every slider. Play as yourself, or who you want to be. Here are just a few of the many possible combinations."

Moore also provided a bit more information about Demon's Souls Photo Mode. This gives players the option to show or hide their weapons or helmets, and even allows them to get rid of their character altogether if they fancy snapping the surrounding landscape. There's also the usual options to add filters and fine-tune colours and so on, too.

That's on top of the ability to take selfies of your character and change their facial expression. No doubt this is going to result in some of the most depressing-looking holiday snaps ever of cheery-looking players in a world that is literally on the verge of ending.

Demon's Souls is launching alongside the PlayStation 5 on November 12 or 19, depending on where in the world you live. Developer Bluepoint has made a huge number of changes to the infamously-difficult 2009 RPG and has added more than 180 videos to assist players who are finding the game a bit challenging.
