DeathSmiles dev puts core games on hold to focus on social
In its latest financial briefing, Japanese sch'mup developer Cave revealed a change of focus sure to distress the hardcore.
As reported by Andriasang, Cave significantly lowered its earning forecasts for the coming financial year, and is now expecting sales of ¥1,303 million, almost ¥100 million less than expectations announced in July 2011.
The new estimates grimly predict an operating loss of ¥31 million rather than the ¥10 million gain the developer expected.
Cave said the games market has stagnated, and retailers are ordering fewer units than previously. As a result, it has placed some core projects on hold in order to focus on social gaming.
Some of Cave's best-loved releases include DonPachi and DeathSmiles.
