Death in Candlewood is an open-world psychological FPS from industry vets on Kickstarter
Rosebud Studios, which is made up of developers who worked on titles such as Silent Hill, F.E.A.R. and The Witcher, have announced Death in Candlewood, an open-world psychological FPS set in a goth 1940s America. The project is up on Kickstarter.
Consultation from BioShock Environmental lead Jay Kyburz will also be provided.
The debut title is seeking $60,000 to complete production, which is already over half-way through development.
Death In Candlewood's story was influenced by the fiction of Edgar Allan Poe and classic horror films. The game spans a single night in the life of Ray Dune, a doctor whose "relationship with reclusive psychiatrist Lester Caravan has reached a deadly crisis point."
When his adopted son Rizzo disappears, Dune will need to navigate the dark paths of Candlewood Mountains and its inhuman assailants to save himself and his son from "the bloody machinations of a madman."
The game's world covers 10km² and allows the player to drive cars and motorbikes, swim, use uncommon weapons against uncommon enemies all the while unraveling a "dark and twisted romance."
"After years of working on horror games, we decided to spend our energy and resources creating a game which evokes intense emotions of fear, love, joy and sadness," said Toni Sanchez, the game's creator and founding member of Rosebud.
"Death In Candlewood aims to make the player really feel. We want each location to be full of emotive, memorable features and through every detail build a ghoulish, romantic story in the player's mind."
Death in Candlewood is slated for release in spring 2015 on PC, and Rosebud also intends to publish it on Mac and Linux shortly afterwards pending a successful Kickstarter campaign.
If it goes "exceedingly well," it could also end up on Oculus Rift.
