Darksiders 2: Ex-Vigil dev speaks out about lack of staff credits
Darksiders 2 UI designer Xander Davies recently hit out at developer Vigil Games for omitting him from the game's end credits. Now other employees are coming forward with the same complaint and more.
Davies - who claimed his employment with Vigil was terminated unexpectedly - stated on his Twitter a while back, "What's crazy is most aspiring game developers have no idea yet how shitty it is to work in triple-A. My life has been a nightmare for 3 yrs."
The Tweet caused other ex-Vigil employees to come forward and say that they too were uncredited after years of work.
In response Vigil Games general manager David Adams sent an email to Destructoid to clarify the omission of Davies and others by stating, "When we were forced to reduce staff due to the cancellation of a project, we worked hard to ensure every single person effected by the layoff received their credit in the game. We did not include individuals whose employment terminated for any other reason, for example, being let go for documented poor performance."
Now one of Vigil's ex-employees Andy Modrovich has written a blog over at Destructoid regarding the affair and the importance of crediting staff where it is due.
In the blog, Modrovich calls the lack of credits "depressingly common", and gives rare insight into the world of a developer under pressure. It's a good read, shadowing the infamous EA Spouse blog, in which the wife of an EA employer exposed the impact of difficult working conditions on her husband and their relationship.
