Darkest Dungeon: The Color of Madness DLC adds new region, enemy faction, comet-induced insanity
A comet has crashed on The Farmstead in Darkest Dungeon, and it's caused a massive mess of things.
Red Hook Studios has announced the next round of DLC for its turn-based RPG Darkest Dungeon.
The Color of Madness features a new region called The Farmstead, where what appears to be a comet has crashed.
It's no ordinary comet: it has an odd, "shifting, ephemeral hue of damnably abrasive intensity." This alien body has caused a bit of havoc over at old Miller's place, as an "unearthly groaning" can be heard coming from its ruins.
Sounds fantastic.
When players step foot onto the Farmstead, they will have to contend with endless groups of monsters in wave-based combat. In order to reach the comet’s crash site, they must survive the onslaught. Some waves will feature enemies from other regions of the Estate.
These enemies are part of the Miller's faction, as he and his workmen have become "lifeless husks" created by the"ever-growing crystalline influence" of the comet. The Miller will also be one of three new bosses. The second is a mini-boss called the Thing From the Stars, and third is of course the Comet.
Players will be able to obtain new consumables from curios between waves of combat. New trinkets will also be available from the Jeweler, a new vendor in the Nomad Wagon. He accepts Comet Shards instead of gold.
Three new repeatable quests are also included in The Color of Madness: a novice introduction, a veteran boss-kill, and an endless darkest-level wave-based combat experience.
The Color of Madness also features a new soundtrack composed by Stuart Chatwood.
Red Hook said Darkest Dungeon players can expect other content, but it's keeping some of it a secret at present. It did note on the game's Steam page The Color of Madness will also contain four new District buildings and new Quirks. The latter sounds rather interesting, considering each hero is subject to mental afflictions. These will worsen as horrible events are witnessed.
Darkest Dungeon: The Color of Madness will be released June 19, first on Linux, Mac, and PC for $4.99.
The DLC will arrive on PlayStation 4, Switch, Vita, Xbox One, and iPad at a later date.
