Cyberpunk 2077 will deliver a “complex critique” on the world and won’t shy away from politics
Cyberpunk as a genre has always been about the dynamics of power - the division between those who have money and those who do not.
Those at the top can afford to metal up and swap out their flesh for cutting-edge tech. Those who can’t afford these augments are almost lower on the food chain. The corporations who control the economy rule all.
In a recent interview with Official Xbox Magazine, CD Projekt Red quest designer Patrick Mills spoke about how Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be shying away away from having something to say.
"Cyberpunk 2077 is a game about people with power at the top and people at the bottom with none," he said. "That power can come from money, hierarchies, technology and violence.
“The original Cyberpunk 2020 setting, like the setting of The Witcher stories, was a complex critique of the author's world, and we don't shy away from that in our games. On the contrary, I think it's one of the things that sets us apart [...] Cyberpunk is an inherently political genre and it's an inherently political franchise."
