Cyberpunk 2077 1.1 patch introduced a major game-breaking bug, but there are workarounds
A certain mission bug the recent Cyberpunk 2077 patch was supposed to fix was seemingly made worse.
Cyberpunk 2077 received its big January update on Friday. The patch brought a tonne of stability and bug fixes, and is one of two major updates coming to the game in the first quarter.
Though the patch has largely been positively received, players say it introduced a big new bug.
One of the many fixes included in patch 1.1 is one for the mission Down on the Street. The original bug prevented Takemura from calling the player, thereby making it impossible to progress. The patch fixes that, but introduces an equally frustrating problem: Takemura won't actually talk, making it impossible to progress the story.
A number of players on Reddit went to check on that mission and frustratingly found themselves still unable to make progress. The usual suggestions of restarting the game or creating a new save don't seem to work, so players have been devising some outlandish - seemingly nonsensical - fixes.
The solution appears to revolve around calling other people to essentially "reset" Takemura's call by forcing a different call. One Reddit user suggests first calling Judy before you get the call from Takemura and staying on the phone until he calls. When you end the Judy call you won't see his call notification on screen. You then need to play any other side job and wait 24 (in-game) hours. At some point, Takemura will call and you should hear him.
Another Reddit user offers a different workaround. "When Takemura called, I drove to one of the undiscovered locations on the map that was close to a side job, neither of which I had ever interacted with before," he explained.
"The phone hung up on Takemura, as Regina Jones was calling about the undiscovered location. Immediately after, Dakota Smith called about the side job. Takemura did not call back, even after ending the other two calls and re-tracking the quest to wait for him to call. I wandered around a bit, did a few little assaults and a side quest that I had been sitting on for a while, made a new save, reloaded the same save, and Takemura called as soon as I reloaded. This time though, he went through his dialogue, and it pushed the quest into the 'Gimme Danger' step."
CD Projekt Red has acknowledged the problem, offering its own workaround. Here is what the developer recommends players do:
- Load a gamesave before Takemura and V leave Wakako's office.
- Finish the conversation with Takemura outside the office right away.
- Right after the finished conversation and when the quest was updated, skip 23h.
- See if the holocall triggers and the dialogue with Takemura starts.
