Cubemen 2 to be the first Wii U indie with cross-play, UGC

A Wii U version of 3 Sprockets' Cubemen 2 is on the way, and will be the platform's first indie game to feature cross-platform multiplayer and user-generated content.

Cubemen 2 is available on iOS, Linux, Mac and PC, and those with the Wii U version will be able to play online with users of all the other versions.

Wii U players will have access to over 4,000 existing user-generated levels, too, and be able to make their own with a built-in editor.

In a press release, publisher Nnooo said it's the first indie title on Wii U with these features.

"I'm really proud to be able to announce this," creative director Nic Watt said.

"We've spent the last few months working with both Nintendo and 3 Sprockets, the game's developer, to make this a reality. Cubemen 2 is an amazing game and a great fit for Nintendo players. We can't wait to see how creative they are, whether in tactical multiplayer online or in the new levels they build."

"We're bringing the gaming community together, offering true cross-platform play and user generated content across multiple platforms and devices and we are ecstatic to be including the Wii U in our lineup for Cubemen 2," 3 Sprockets director Seon Rozenblum said.

Cubemen 2 is a fast-paced strategy game with a variety of single- and multiplayer modes, with up to six players in solo and team battles. It boasts character skins and a global ranking system, and is expected in either late 2013 or early 2014 in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.

The Wii U port of Cubemen 2 is the first game to be published by Australian indie Nnooo, best known for escapeVektor but also responsible for WiiWare favourite Pop and DS title Spirit Hunters.
