Crytek to offer its CryEngine technology for $9.90 per month, with no royalty fees
Crytek has announced it will offer its CryEngine technology through an "Engine-as-a-Service" program, providing developers with the same toolset used in Ryse: Son of Rome for $9.90 per month with zero royalty fees.
Starting in May 2014, indie developers will be able to use all features for a monthly subscription, which includes the Physically Based Shading, Geometry Cache and Image Based Lighting upgrades announced yesterday.
More details on offer to developers as part of the program will be announced in the near future. The CryEngine free SDK will continue to be available under its current terms.
Epic Games announced a similar program yesterday, which would provide developers with access to Unreal Engine 4 for a monthly fee of $19 per month. Should the game ship as a commercial product using UE4, Epic will charge a royalty fee, which amounts to 5% of gross revenue resulting from sales to users.
