Creative Assembly has "no philosophical problem" with mods
The increasing difficulty of modding the Total War series isn't a deliberate effort to promote DLC sales, The Creative Assembly has vowed.
PC Gamer asked studio director Mike Simpson whether the increasingly complexity of the strategy series's mod tools was related to a stronger reliance on post-launch DLC sales.
"That isn’t the case. If anything, we tend towards: the more mod support, the more DLC you’ll sell,” he said.
“It has always been quite difficult to support mods quite well and it’s quite a lot of work, so we’d end up not doing something else.”
Simpson said the team is working on better mod tools, and would like to get on board the Steam Workshop wagon.
"We should be letting people do this,” he said. There’s no philosophical problem with modding at all," he said.
The latest Total war release is Fall of the Samurai, a stand alone expansion to Shogun 2. It launches on March 23.
