It's been 10 years since the last installment in the Thief franchise. This reboot by Eidos Montreal (the makers of Deux Ex: Human Revolution) has been in the works for some time now, with the studio taking its time to create a game that it hopes will appeal to fans of the original series and newcomers tempted by a notoriously difficult stealth franchise.

Released this week in the US and Europe, Thief (officially the fourth game in the series) sees anti-hero Garrett, the Master Thief, return to the City to plunder its riches and avoid being pulled in to the political affairs of the local nobles and aristocracy. Armed with a blackjack, specialised arrows and the cover of darkness, players can either sneak around the world completely undetected or act much more ruthlessly, assassinating those that stand between gold and glory.

As with any stealth game, pre-planning and caution pay dividends. Study the environment as much as possible and use shadows and height to approach people and locations from alternative angles. Garrett's Focus ability is crucial to play, allowing the player to highlight interactive scenery and slow down time. And remember that the bow may be lethal from a distance, but it's also an excellent tool with the right arrowhead.

Thief has many collectible items mixed between the game's chapters and missions. Aside from collectible items, the game features common loot. This can found in any nook or cranny in the game, making up your primary source of income. We'll guide you through the objectives so you can properly plunder each area for all its hidden treasure.
