Comet collapse: all UK stores to close tomorrow as brand hangs in the balance

Comet will see all of its electronics stores shuttered on December 18th, following the brand's collapse. Administrator Deloitte published the announcement this morning. Get the details below.

MCV reports that Comet's closure will result in the loss of 6,600 jobs across the UK, and will see the company shell out £2.1 million in unused holiday and back pay. However, the closures haven't ruled out a potential buyer of the brand just yet, so a last-minute take over could still be possible.

Dixons has stepped in to hire 1,000 laid of Comet workers as Xmas temp staff for example, but the situation remains bleak. Comet owners OpCapita famously purchased the brand for just £2 last year, and more recently took over the Game UK group.
