China's government preparing console ban lift - report
The Chinese government is planning to lift its ban on games consoles, according to a report in a national newspaper.
According to South China Morning Post, the government's draft policy document has the blessing of Premier Li Keqiang, and would see the ban revoked following its implementation in 2000.
However, under the plan foreign companies such as Sony will only be allowed to operate in Shanghai's new free trade zone. The decision forms part of the Chinese government's plan to open the country's economy to international markets, and while the move has yet to be dated, it bodes well for game companies looking to break into China.
