The new regulations allow minors protection from "unwholesome" content while playing online, while also try to reduce the risk of them becoming addicted to online gaming.

New rules will see purchase of in-game goods and services being restricted to virtual cash, while minors won’t be allowed to conduct any virtual transactions at all.

China's online gaming population will reach an estimated 93 million this year, and could grow by as much as 100 million in the next few years.
