Child's Play raised $5 million for charity in 2012

Child's Play, the charity geared towards raising money to buy games and toys for children's hospitals and domestic violence relief centres has revealed it raised some $5 million throughout 2012. The charity has responded to the news by issuing its thanks to those who donated.

The charity posted on its blog this morning that it raised $5,085,761 worldwide last year, and added, "The term 'record-setting' doesn’t do our final total justice, nor does incredible, amazing, generous, or overwhelming.

"From our own events to a record number of community-run fundraisers (many of which were featured on our new website calendar), we as a group were able to raise an astonishing amount to benefit kids in hospitals, clinics, and domestic violence shelters worldwide.

"But each and every one of these events requires thousands of volunteers, organizers, and participants, each pouring in late hour after late hour, weekend after weekend, to make these events work."

Child's Play does indeed hold a many number of fund-raising events each year, such as Desert Bus for Hope, in which fund-raisers sit down and play the notoriously s**t game 'Desert Bus', which featured on the unreleased but leaked Mega-CD title Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors. We salute them, given how awful the game is said to be. Seriously. (Thanks to Phrasz013 for the video link).

We'll continue to report on Child's Plays events as they happen throughout 2013.

Thanks Polygon.
