CES 2016: new tech said to charge controller batteries in one minute

CES 2016 brings yet another exciting advancement in battery charging technology, even if it's a little hard to believe.

PDP is one of the many inventors at CES 2016 seeking to show off their latest toys. The company claims to have a working prototype of a new tech that's able to fully charge a controller's battery in just one minute, which will then provide eight hours of play.

"In the past it has been about either your dry cell battery chemistries or your lithium ion or lithium polymers, but we've developed a new type of power pack," director of product development at the PDP Christopher Dingle told Polygon at the show.

The company expects the pack to go for around $99 and will begin taking pre-orders by the end of the year.

Dingle elaborated slightly on how the technology does this, without going into too much detail. "It’s a new type of power pack chemistry," he said. "It’s a physical reaction rather than a chemical reaction."

The image above is of the Xbox One prototype shown at CES, though it wasn't functional, according to Polygon.
