CD Projekt Red is fixing Cyberpunk 2077 so it can be sold "for years to come"
CD Projekt has outlined its intent to fix Cyberpunk 2077 so that the developer can continue to sell the game on various platforms "for years to come," in spite of the game's launch woes.
Though it was plagued with glitches and almost unplayable on Xbox One and PS4 at launch, CD Projekt Red still believes in Cyberpunk 2077, and reckons there's a lot of life left in the game as the studio looks towards the future.
In a statement to Reuters, CD Projekt's joint CEO Adam Kicinski has reassured investors and fans that the game will be fixed – and that the studio isn't simply going to abandon the troubled project.
"I don't see an option to shelve Cyberpunk 2077," says Kicinski. "We are convinced that we can bring the game to such a state that we can be proud of it and therefore successfully sell it for years to come."
The studio clearly isn't worried about the game's immediate future, then, even though the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is still delisted from the PlayStation store. Apparently, CD Projekt has had “friendly relations” with Sony and the recent 1.2 patch is another step towards the game being made available on PS4 once more.
As well as Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red clearly has some other focuses at the moment, too. At the end of March, the company announced that it intends to kick off development of multiple AAA games starting in 2022, thought it notes future marketing campaigns will be much shorter (a hard lesson learned, we're sure).
Whether or not the company's most recent assertions about fixing the game will do anything to mitigate the annoyances of legions of fans remains to be seen. The future of Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer mode also remains unclear.
