CCP shows off EVE Online on mobile devices

How would you like to play EVE Online on your tablet or smartphone? You can't, but you might soon be able to manage your empire on the go.

CCP demonstrated its epic sci-fi MMORPG on Tegra 2-powered devices at EVE Fanfest on the weekend, Edge reports.

Chief technical officer Halldór Fannar told press that the game will expand to two more platforms in the next five years, but that mobiles and tablets aren't necessarily the next step.

"What you saw today was more of an exploratory project we started with Nvidia to see what quality of graphics we could get on these devices," he explained.

Instead, an HTTP interface could be just the ticket for mobile apps which tie into the core game.

"It opens up the possibility of having dedicated applications for doing market transactions, managing your skill queue and, for instance, fitting your spaceship," he said.

Perhaps you could soon be utterly baffled and in need of spreadsheets wherever you go.

CCP lifted the lid on its plans for the game in Reykjavik his weekend. EVE Online was launched in 2003, and is touted as the largest persistent game world ever.
