Cancelled Star Wars game linked to Red Fly lay-offs
Dramatic staff cuts at Wii port developer Red Fly may have resulted from the cancelation of an unannounced Star Wars game.
Ever-reliable but semi-retired industry sleuth Superannuation turned up a reference to an unknown Star Wars game on the CV of ex-Red Fly staffer Patrick Doran.
Doran served as an environment artist until June, working on an unnamed "next-gen Star Wars title" in addition to contributions to the Wii port of The Force Unleashed II.
The studio was forced to let 30 staff go earlier this month.
Red Fly CEO Dan Borth said at the time that the lay-offs were "a response to a large high-profile project that was, to our surprise, reevaluated and then canceled".
Super pointed out that if Red Fly really was adversely affected by a LucasArts cancellation, it's the fourth major developer in recent times to suffer that fate, the others being Slant Six, Krome, and Free Radical.
Rd Fly's works include Mushroom Men, and the Wii version of Thor.
