Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Latest Patch Adds in Gun Game

Also, it's led to some more map leaks.

With the addition of a classic Call of Duty game mode for its Modern Warfare reboot, it seems Infinity Ward also let some details on more incoming comebacks slip. The addition of Gun Game is almost certainly the highlight of Modern Warfare's latest patch, but dataminers have also dug into it and turned up more evidence of future map remakes.

The 1.09 update for Modern Warfare makes a number of small tweaks—notably, footstep volume has been fiddled with again—and adds new two new Special Operation missions. The patch's brightspot for longtime Call of Duty players, however, has to be the addition of Gun Game.

For the uninitiated, Gun Game is the mode where players typically start matches with a lowly peashooter and work their way up through tiers of better weapons as they rack up kills. It was first introduced in 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops, and has cropped up in most of the installments since.

Once dataminers cracked open the 1.09 patch, they found more evidence to suggest previous Modern Warfare maps will make a comeback. On Reddit, dataminer Senescallo uncovered an unfinished loading screen for Crash, a map that appeared in both Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. Crash was previously named in Senescallo's leak of 38 maps that may be slated for future updates, including other Call of Duty classics like Rust and Shipment.

CharlieIntel reports that dataminers have also discovered an image of Cargo, another map named in the recent leak. Set on a boat loaded with cargo containers (as you might guess), it seems as though Cargo could be a revamped version of Wet Work, a map from the original Modern Warfare that shares the same setting.

While you shouldn't get your hopes up about these map remakes until they're officially confirmed, the addition of Gun Game should be a sufficient dose of nostalgia for now. If you need to brush up on Modern Warfare's set of weapons before you dive in, USG's guide section has you covered.
