Some Black Ops Cold War players are locked out of Season One content [Update]
The first season for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has a few teething problems.
Update: Treyarch has posted an update on this problem, confirming that it's limited to PC. Treyarch is working with Beenox, developer of the PC version, to investigate and resolve the issue.
Unfortunately, crossplay has been disabled on PC until a fix has been deployed. This could result in longer matchmaking times on PC. You also won't be able to team up with your console friends as a result.
Original story: Earlier this morning, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War merged with Warzone, as part of the former's Season One of content. The Battle Pass is live, the new Rebirth Island battle royale map is here, and players can now bring Black Ops Cold War weapons and perks into Warzone.
Unfortunately, not everyone who downloaded this morning's patch could actually experience the new content. A particularly nasty error has been popping up for many players that stops them from being able to join matches playing the new content.
They could see the new maps in custom games, for instance, and every indication they have is that their game is fully updated, but they can't actually play any of it.
The error code: Zed 398 Swift Clover is the one players have reported getting since the Season One launch, and it appears the issue is not limited to a single platform, though most of the reports are on PC.
Right now, there does not appear to be any fix for it. The good news is that Treyarch is currently investigating. Studio community manager Josh "FoxhoundFPS" Torres confirmed this to disgruntled players on Reddit.
It's not yet clear what's actually causing the problem; whether it's missing files or a network bug messing with content authorisation somehow.
