Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 1.09 patch adds new specialist, big Blackout map changes, armor repair system, more

Treyarch has rolled out Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's update 1.09 on PS4 today, bringing plenty of new content to multiplayer, and Blackout.

As previously revealed, the update is titled Operation Absolute Zero. The patch is available now for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players on PS4, with other platforms to follow soon.

In multiplayer, update 1.09 adds a new specialist named Zero, who has the ability to disrupt other specialist's deployed weapons and defences (and some scorestreaks). There are also two new weapons, along with a host of fixes, and balance tweaks.

Blackout gets the lion share of updates. First, the map's visual style has been updated to match the winter season. As far as content, the ship from Hijacked can now be found in the northwest corner, not to mention smaller changes to existing locations like Hydro Dam, Factory, and Nuketown Island.

Armor has once again been overhauled in Blackout. To start with, it will now absorb more damage before breaking, but Treyarch hasn't change the amount of damage it passes on to the wearer. The biggest change to armor, however, is that players will be able to repair it during the round.

This is to make it less frustrating for players to lose armor after every fight, despite winning. Armor Plates can be found in dead players' stashes, and as loot in the world, and it's what you'll be using to restore some durability to your armor.

Audio in Blackout, another sticking point for players, has seen massive changes as well. Treyarch is now prioritising footsteps over other in-world ambient noises, and today's update brings many tweaks to how distance, occlusion, and direction affect audio that should make it easier to make out player footsteps, and correctly identify their location.

Zombies players also have a couple of things to look forward to. They're now able to skip one Black Market tier daily by playing just 15 rounds in Classic Zombies. And, more stability fixes for all three maps have been implemented, with a few of them focusing on high-round games.

The full list of patch notes is massive, and can be found on Reddit.
