Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 made over $500 million launch weekend

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 dropped last Friday and over the course of the weekend made serious bank as usual.

Activision said over the three-day weekend, the game raked in over $500 million worldwide and players spent over 75 million hours combined online in the game over the course of the weekend.

That figure is sell-through to customers, by the way. Not sell-in to retail.

Digital sales of the shooter were nearly double that of Advanced Warfare which released in November 2014. Retail sales of the franchise are also up "significantly" over the last two years.

The PS4 version is currently the "best-selling digital full game by units sold in its first day of availability," said the company. It was also the most streamed and viewed title "of any game launch in 2015," as reported by Twitch.

Black Ops 3 also debuted at number one on Media Create's chart, with the PS4 version selling 143,817 units in Japan. The Xbox One version debuted in third place with 20,899 units sold. Combined, the shooter moved 164,716 copies in the region.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is available on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
