The digital version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has mysteriously disappeared from Amazon and the Xbox Games Store. Both the standard and deluxe edition are only available in physical form.

The removal happened a few days ago and was discovered by ICXM. This also affects the game's season pass on Xbox One.

The PlayStation 4 version, as well as its season pass, is still available from Amazon and PSN.

"Yes, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 pre-order offers have been temporarily removed from the Xbox Store, however we are actively engaged with Activision to return it as soon as possible," Microsoft told Polygon.

"In the meantime, fans can pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for Xbox One or Xbox 360 from any of a host of retail partners here. If you've pre-ordered the game from the Xbox Store already you will receive it when it launches on November 6."

"Available at your local retailer for pre-order" is the message plastered over all versions of the game on the Xbox Games Store. However, according to publisher Activision, it did not remove it from the Xbox Store.

"Activision did not remove the digital version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 from the Xbox Games Store," the publisher said. "Black Ops 3 is ready for launch on November 6th and is the most anticipated game of the year. Black Ops 3 is available for pre-order or pre-purchase through our other retail partners worldwide."

Both being non-answer comments, fans are beginning to speculate if this is somehow related to the franchise switching consoles.

While the idea of a marketing deal preventing the sale of the game on other platforms seems absurd, there's no limit to the types of agreements that get inked in the games industry.
