Call of Cthulhu gameplay video delves deeper into skills, and the path of madness

Here's a new trailer showing off gameplay in Call of Cthulhu.

This new gameplay trailer for the Cyanide Studio-developed RPG Call of Cthulhu takes viewers further down the path of Edward Pierce's madness.

Based on Chaosium’s pen and paper RPG of the same name, Call of Cthulhu tasks players with investigating the death of Sarah Hawkins and in doing so, they will come into coming into contact with some rather interesting characters.

In the video below, we meet up with Pierce as his investigations on Darkwater Island start spiraling out of control. Between the "unsettling conspiracies, bizarre cults and the Old Ones themselves," he's about to step over the edge.

In the game, players will need to rely on upgradeable skills to stave both madness and death.

Using the Spot Hidden and Investigation skill paths, players will be able to find more clues, draw conclusions, and unlock more dialogue topics. Players will also have to use their skills in Eloquence and Psychology to glean knowledge from the tight-lipped locals.

Sometimes brute force will be necessary, and that's where the Strength skill comes in. It is also a for intimidating "impressionable people" into offering up secrets.

The skill set also includes Medicine and Occultism. These can be improved by discovering books and artifacts throughout the investigation. The caveat? Learning additional insight and knowledge can also be a curse in Call of Cthulhu. The more aware Pierce is made of the horrors, the more he will fall to insanity.

More gameplay details are included in the narrated video.

Call of Cthulhu releases October 30 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
